El Dorado County’s Probation Department will have a new leader by Dec. 2.

Brian Richart, who most recently was Chief of Staff at the Alameda County Probation Department, will oversee El Dorado County’s probationers, juvenile offenders and felons released under the 2011 state realignment.

“Brian has a lot of experience with the day-to-day operation of county probation departments both large and small,” a press release quoted El Dorado County Superior Court Presiding Judge Suzanne N. Kingsbury as saying. “Equally as important will be his knowledge and leadership of the Community Corrections Partnership toward the overall goal of reducing offender recidivism.”

He was appointed Oct. 22 by the county’s judges and the board of supervisors, according to the press release.

“I’m excited and humbled to be the County’s new Probation Chief and look forward to bringing my family into the community,” the press release quoted Richart as saying. “El Dorado County is a great place to live and I’m looking forward to leading what I know to be a quality department that works in a collaborative county environment.”

He led the Alameda County Probation Department last year when its chief was accused of sexually assaulting a coworker, and previously worked as chief of the Shasta County Probation Department and president of Assessments.com.
