Children were injured Thursday morning when a school bus was hit head-on by a driver who now faces charges of driving drunk, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol said the five injured kids “suffered minor complaint of pain injuries” after the crash on Grizzly Flat Road in Somerset. CBS Sacramento and the Sacramento Bee reported the number of injured students as two, and said they were transported to a hospital as a precaution but were not seriously hurt.

The Bee said the driver of the car, 24-year-old Somerset resident Steven Gruber, fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into the bus’ lane around 6:50 a.m.

Gruber was arrested on charges of driving impaired, the CHP said.
