A Folsom teen this week met the El Dorado County man who she says saved her life in a snowy accident last month on Highway 50.

Mattie Alleva and Ashley Voll, both 18, were returning from a Tahoe ski resort on Jan. 31 when their car hit a patch of ice and crashed into another vehicle before careening off the roadway, the Mountain Democrat reported.

Two El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office investigators and a Cal Fire investigator–Jim Applegate, Dave Stevenson and Tom Oldag–were returning from the South Lake Tahoe area and were two cars behind the accident, the Democrat said.

One man directed traffic, one tended to victims who had been ejected from the second vehicle, and the third removed the windshield in Alleva and Voll’s car, according to the Mountain Democrat.

The girls were trapped inside, and the three men kept them stable until an ambulance arrived. Officials later found Alleva’s neck had been broken, but she was not paralyzed–she credits Stevenson keeping her still for that.
