A Placerville elementary school was briefly evacuated Wednesday morning after a gas smell was reported in three classrooms.

Sierra Elementary School, located at 1100 Thompson Way, was evacuated to the playground area just before 11 a.m., the Placerville Police Department said.

El Dorado County fire officials were first to respond to Sierra School, and asked police for help moving students to the playground.

At 11:35 a.m., Placerville Police said the school was checked and no gas leaks were found. The school was deemed to be safe and students were moved back into their classrooms.

“All the students have returned to their normal school routine,” Placerville Police said in a press release.
