How Many People in El Dorado County Have Concealed Weapon Permits? 1 in 60

Concealed weapon permits are on the rise in the region, and about one in 60 people in El Dorado County have a CCW permit to carry a concealed weapon — 2,500 at the end of 2015, according to reporting by the Sacramento Bee.

“Our agency has changed our policy to still be compliant with state law but to be as lenient as we can,” Sheriff John D’Agostini told the Bee. “I believe an armed society is a safe society.”

That compares to one in 110 in Placer County and one in 135 in Sacramento County. It’s an increase of “about 50 percent from 2012 to 2015” for both counties, according to the Bee. The number of CCW permits have also been on the rise in neighboring Sacramento County, where Sheriff Scott Jones is running for Congress this fall.

But it still pales in comparison to places like Texas, where one in 20 people holds a permit to carry a concealed weapon, the Bee says.

In California, each county sheriff is responsible for issuing concealed weapon permits, and their policies can vary. For example, Yolo County is being sued in federal court for not issuing more concealed weapon permits.
